Meanwhile, we are 1 year further and can give an update.
We can conclude that we can't expect more improvement in Nangi than she is in her current condition. We allow her to enjoy her happy moments, even though she'll suffer for it afterwards. If, f.i., she has done a lot of running, so far her condition allows it, she is in pain the whole of the following day. She is super strong and we are really happy that she's still with us because we were not at all sure of that, a year ago!
At home, she rules, once again, over Jukati, they even play together now and then but she knows she's too weak now for romps outside. Amazingly enough, Jukati seems to accept the changed Nangi, although he still sometimes wants to push her down in his enthousiasm.
Recently, (end of April), we took Nangi for a thorough examination, to the Tjerk Bosje this time, the other specialist, and a few days later it appeared that her blood was clear but her urine cloudy. A lymph node was swollen so a lymph biopsy was done too.
The results were excellent. The Leishmania is under controle so we can now stop giving Nangi the allopurinol for a year. We'll continue giving her the benazepril to support the kidneys in processing protein. We also notice in Nangi when she starts feeling unwell and we have decided, after consultation, to administer a 4-6 weeks' course of
antibiotic, because some bacteria and leukocytes were present in her urine. In the past, she has been prone to urine infections, one after another.
Hence this lengthy course of antibiotics.
At any rate, here they have their Scalibor (TM) collar on from May until september!
